Cortez the Killer
So, yesterday Hernan Cortez became the subject of dinner conversation, and I got to thinking, why is everybody so down on him?
Okay, yeah, I know why. It's just weird that people have a much lower opinion of (say) Genghis Khan and Cortez than they do of (say) Alexander the Great and Napoleon, when they were all cut from the same cloth.
And maybe it's a Stupid Guy Thing (Stupid here modifies Thing, not Guy), but there's something cool about these guys who conquer whole civilizations...you could hardly ask for better "tough guy" credentials than that.
