Ilya Somin from the Volokh Conspiracy has posted a few observations about the (relative) failure of the Israeli kibbutzim. Now, compare the kibbutzim and moshavim to the LDS United Order. I think it's pretty interesting. Joseph Smith had it right--it seems "having all things in common" still needs to have the element of personal property and individual ownership to be a success.
